Ports and our rating(1-10)

AMSTERDAM-10 Excellent city both day and night. The twighlight canal boat trip is well worth doing. You get a completely different view of Amsterdam and wine and cheese thrown in!!At night it changes into something that you have to experience.

BILBAO-8 It was our first visit here and it left a good impression. It is a clean and mix and modern with the Guggenheim being a prime example. My impression was that it was not a Spanish city but a European one(not a typical resort style).

BRUGES-8 Beautiful place very similar to Amsterdam, with its canals.Ships usually dock at Zeegrugge and its a short ride by train or coach to Bruges. The trains run from Blankenberg station, where the shuttle buses drop you off.Blankenberg is well worth a visit with its wide promenade and sandy beach, even a pier!Whilst there check out the sand carving!!!

BARCELONA-8 What needs to be said about this busy and flamboyant city. The architecture alone inspired by Gaudi and even now still being added to!At night it turns into a completely different city. The Ramblas and the big open square has live shows on and the place is generally jumping!

BERGEN - 7 What a difference from the other ports around the fjords. It is a lot busier and it was the first time that we had seen an aircraft since we left Southampton.Plenty of trips to be done and it is a good place for shopping albeit a little expensive.

BILBAO-8 Another first time and will be going back. This a very nice city and plenty of work going on here as well. The area where the Guggenheim Museum is very well laid out.It dosnt give me the impression that it is a Spanish city but very European.

CANNES-7 Reached by tender from the ship, you feel great entering the harbour with the yachts moored there.Where you are dropped off is the busier area, the more upmarket end is a short walk along the Promenade, where you find the shops that you would expect in France.

CALVI-7 A ships tender gets you to this lovely little port on the island of Corsica. There is a castle to explore with bracing views and places to take photos of "Your Ship".In the town itself there are lots of little shops and bar restaurants, where you can watch the world go by and be "watched" yourself!!!

CAGLIARI-7 The island of Sardinia welcomes you by tender into its busy and bustling harbour. From where you can catch ferries to the other islands and the mainland. It is a typical Italian town with its squares and shops, restaurants and bars. The is also plenty to be seen on the island by Taxis or tour bus.

COPENHAGEN-7 From the little Mermaid to the palaces this is really a beautiful and clean city.Take you walking shoes as there is a lot to see and do.

DUBLIN-9 It was our first trip here and we were not let down. The Guinness is different to UK and I loved it.Shame that you are not allowed to look around the brewery only the shop. There is a great amount of building going on which suggests that it is on the up.Plenty of hostelries and shops also plenty of things to see and do.

FLAAM-7 This is where you get off to go on the railway excursion up into the mountains to Voss and Myrdal. It is breathtaking scenery and a must for this port.A great day out.

FLORENCE/PISA-7 You berth at Liverno a busy docks. From there your tour buses take you to Florence/Pisa(20-50 mins)Pisa is the nearest.Pisa itself is a small town with the obvious Leaning Tower and museums in the square also a street market. The narrow streets have shops, hotels and bar/cafes.We didnt find a lot to do there so a short stop was welcome.Florence is a little like Rome, one visit is not enough,so you will have to return. There is outstanding beauty everywhere that you look!

GIBRALTAR-6 From the apes on The Rock to the small town below is like a piece of Britain with its pubs and British Bobbies. This is the place for you drinking and smoking needs,to take back home,or even have on the ship!

GDANSK-7 From the port of Gdynia you are in Poland. On our first visit I was amazed to find beaches and hotels as well as the old regime, still to be seen.Remember Lech Walensa founder of Solidarity lives here.

GRAN CANARIA-7 A busy island that has Las Palmas as its capital.A typical Canary island with a wealth of beach resorts. We found it a little "breezy".

HELSINKI-7 The capital of Finland is not a massive city but you will find everything that you require at you disposal. For the ship building enthusiast there is a very big ship building yard on the docks, from where you can view the latest build.

LA ROCHELLE-7 Pretty French fishing port with lots of shops and plenty of history to be found.

LISBON-8 Try and rise early(depending on docking time)to watch you arrive at this port.Passing under the Mighty 13 April Bridge, listen to the traffic on the road surface above! There is plenty to see and do in this large city. There are shuttle buses up to the main square.(Try out Hard Rock Cafe)If you are walking to the city centre, there is a steep hill to go up,where your whims are catered for.Be careful on the trams(which are very cheap)for pickpockets. If you take a walk under the bridge you will find an array of bar restaurants.Make sure you visit Estoril,Cascais and Sintra if you can fit everything in!

MADEIRA- 10 A really verdundant island with Funchal as its capital and port. The ships dock"more or less"in the centre of Funchal. If you feel energetic its a 20 mins walk approx. to the town centre around the edge of the docks.Or you could take the ferry across the harbour to the Marina, where you will find an excellent"watering hole"The Beer House brewing their own beer and an excelent food menu. There is plenty of shopping to be had around the quirky back streets and a broad promenade where you can view the ships.Whilst there try Blandys wine lodge for a sample of the local wine and dont miss the "wicker sledge" ride!!!

PORTOFINO-6A very picturesque little "gingerbread house "spot.Plenty of photos to be taken here but be warned to get the full vista, you have a fair way to walk along a long and somtimes steep path.Once there though your camera will be used to the full.
